Hero
An acquaintance asked me today what i’ve been up to for the past few weeks because he hadn’t heard from me…..my answer is as follows
So the past 5wks I’ve:
- put 3500 miles on my car
- spent $1,200+ on gas, food, and parking
- Used 78hrs of annual leave
- Gotten on average 5hrs of sleep per night
- sat by my sisters bed/ICU room everyday for at minimum 15hrs everyday until she was awake and moved into intermediate care
He askes “Was it worth it?”
I paused, and instead of going off on him and telling him that he’s a insensitive d-bag and doesn’t know what it means to sacrifice for someone that you love. I tell him “seeing my sister five days after major brain surgery open up her eyes, tell me she loves me and that I was her hero was probably one of the greatest, and most significant moment in my life. With tears in my eyes i told her no, and that she was mine.”
“Here was a person that wasn’t suppose to leave the ICU wing for at least a month, and here we are one month later and she and I are laughing and playing around as i’m wheeling her down the hall way pretending like i’m going to run people in front of us over”
He says “Ohh….sorry, i guess I was being kind of a dick huh?”
Me “Little bit yeah, just a little bit”
So After 6wks i’m happy to report that my sister is doing very well in rehab and beating all of the doctors expectations. Nothing short of a miracle and a tremendous testimony she will have once she’s out and back home. I just want to thank all of the people i’m close to, friends, family, co-workers, and bloggers for their support, prayers, and words of encouragement.
And now that i’m starting to get back to neutral and not spending so much time in the hospital with my sis, i’ll be able to get back to the blog and begin posting on a regular basis. Lots of stuff to cover over the past month or so lets get to it, shall we?

Wow! What an ass? This person is a friend of yours? What a jackass!

Well I for one am happy to hear about your sister and her great recovery. I keep her, you, and your family in my thoughts and prayers. You are a great person a GREAT brother, don’t let anybody make you feel otherwise.

You should consider yourself a HERO. I wish I had a brother with the same love and dedication that you’ve shown your sister and family. I would be blessed to have you in my family. “Que Dios te bendiga tu familia y tu”

I applaud your restraint towards your friend’s …. insensitivity.
It’s great to hear about your sister’s well being. It just goes to show that with faith, all things are possible. Just keep in mind, a sister is a forever friend.

First of all, I must say that I am soooo proud of you for not going off on this individual. I’ve witnessed you being ready to snap necks for less. This just shows your dedication to family which is to be admired (and something that this person does not have). I’m almost as proud that you were there for your sister the way you have been. I say almost because I’m not surprised that you did these things for your sister. I AM surprised that you were so calm when that acquaintance made that comment.
It’s great that your sister’s recovery is going so well. To see how far she’s come in such a “short” amount of time is amazing to say the least. It’s great to see you back. Partially because I look forward to these updates but more because you being back means that your sister’s recovery has progressed enough for you to have time to go back to your normal self. Well don’t go completely back to your normal self. “Normal” B. Price would have chewed that dude out for his comment.

Thanks Bae, it’s something that i’ve really been working on and need to continue to approve upon as well (being there for my sis, and keeping my cool and not reaching thru the phone and snatching the life out of someone). I’m glad to be back, it feels right to be blogging again, although i need to get on the grind a little bit more.
@Buddha: Appreciate the support as always fam. The Proverb was a good one, thanks for sharing that.
She’s coming home this Friday at 1100 hrs too, so we are all looking forward to that.
